Summary:

This course is designed for early years practitioners, SENCOs and managers who want to strengthen inclusive communication practice within their setting. It introduces the principles of a Total Communication Approach and explores how this can be embedded into everyday practice as part of ordinarily available provision.

Participants will be introduced to a range of practical communication and interaction strategies to support children with SEND, with a focus on strategies that can be easily used within the setting and shared with parents and carers to support consistency at home.

By the end of the session, participant will feel more confident in using a Total Communication Approach to enhance inclusive practice and support positive outcomes for children.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand what a Total Communication Approach is and why it is important in early years practice
  • Identify ways to implement and embed a Total Communication Approach within ordinarily available provision
  • Explore a range of practical communication and interaction strategies to support children with SEND
  • Develop confidence in sharing communication strategies with parents and carers to support children at home
